Here’s a shout out to www.caregiverunderground.com, a great site for those who have the primary care of others.  Being a carer is incredibly hard physically, mentally and emotionally and these tolls on the care giver shouldn’t be underestimated.  I particularly appreciated the post on fire safety.  My parents are frail and only in their 70’s and I worry about them being able to even get out of bed and to the door to get out of the house in the case of a fire alarm.  Also, the front door is nearest their bedroom and is kept permanently locked.  I don’t even know how to manage the locks to get it open!  They’d have to navigate the entire house to get to the backdoor and potentially be cut off from it by fire.  I’m going to address this with them in the next few days.  Elder care needs to be high on my agenda these days.
